  • Conditional use applications
    Conditional use applications  St. Louis County requires conditional use permits for most types of commercial use and businesses, industrial uses, outdoor signs, planned developments, and certain short term rental uses, etc. Additional conditional use application information, click here.

  • Land alteration application
    Land alteration application  A land alteration permit is necessary for filling, grading, and/or excavating on or near shoreland property. Additional land alteration application information, click here.
  • Borrow (Gravel) Pits/Extractive Use
    Borrow (Gravel) Pits/Extractive Use  A borrow pit is a land use involving the excavation or digging of material for use as fill at another site. A permit is required whenever there is borrow material for sale. A General Purpose Commercial Borrow Pit requires a Conditional Use Permit and public hearing and a Public Works Borrow Pit requires a Performance Standard Permit.   • Rezoning application
    Rezoning application  In some cases, rezoning a parcel may be necessary as the current zoning may be incompatible with the current activities in the area. Additional rezoning application information, click here
  • Subdividing Property
    Subdividing Property  Nearly all land divisions in Minnesota are regulated by local authorities. St. Louis County Ordinance 60 regulates the subdivision of land outside of municipalities (cities).   • Cell Towers and Utility Structures
    Cell Towers and Utility Structures  Communication towers and utility structures are allowed in all zone districts and on lots or leased parcels that are no smaller than 20,000 square feet.   • Wetland applications and reviews
    Wetland applications and reviews  Landowners considering any construction or alteration within wetland areas should contact the St. Louis County Planning and Zoning Department or whoever the LGU (Local Government Unit) is for their jurisdiction.     Performance standard permits  A performance standard permit authorizes a use or a structure which must meet a minimum set of pre-defined standards or criteria. Performance standard permits may be required for Nonconforming Structure Replacement, Addition to a Nonconforming Structure in Shoreland or Other types of permits.     Home business permits  A home business is conducted on an owner’s home property and should be consistent with rural residential lifestyle and compatible with a neighborhood. Review Submitted Permits

Use the search function to inquire on submitted Permits. If you know the Application ID or a Violation ID associated with the permit, you may enter that ID. Otherwise, select/enter what you know and press 'Search'.
